Big Bulky Scarf using a pattern from Red Heart Soft Essentials
7November 12, 2018 by Robin @ Imperial Crochet
Did you ever buy yarn for a project and then fall in love with the crochet pattern on the label? Me too!
I’ve started an afghan for my living room and each time I grab a new skein of yarn, I see a photo of a gorgeous scarf. Since the blanket I’m crocheting is all one color, Red Heart Soft Essentials in Cream, I keep seeing the same scarf and it just kept calling to me until I decided to make one.

Here’s what the label looks like.
Instead of buying all new yarn for this project I decided to do a little stash-busting. I did borrow some of the afghan yarn which I’ll need to replace but I switched colors on the scarf so that I could use up some of what I had on hand and this is the one I made…

Ta Da!
I have to admit, I miss the seafoam color in the original but I do love this version too and I can’t wait for it to get a little bit colder so I can begin wearing it. Okay, that’s not completely the truth. To be honest, I hate cold weather and I’d be just as happy not having to wear a big bulky scarf but since I live where it will eventually get cold, I’ll be nice and warm wrapped in my pretty new scarf.
How about you? Have you ever used a pattern you found on a skein of yarn? Please feel free to tell me all about it in the comments section. This is actually the first time I’ve ever done that but it won’t be the last.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Many times 🙂 Usually the reason I buy yarn from a big box store is because of a pattern I saw on the ball band. Your scarf looks lovely and I know exactly what you mean by “can’t wait for it to get colder to wear it”, LOL. It’s already cold here, so I have warn several of my scarves already. I do think your scarf will keep you nice and warm.

I usually buy yarn for a pattern I already have but I may start using your strategy and shop for patterns on the yarn skeins! Thanks for stopping by and sharing, Ginny.

A good pattern is a good pattern – no matter where you find it! Your scarf is very pretty and looks wonderfully warm, so enjoy.
